Answers before adding complexity.
Most issues are a path mismatch, an existing output file, or a deliberate limit.
Why does it say “output already exists”?
The tool refuses to overwrite files. Choose a new name such as index-new.html, inspect the result, and decide whether to replace the earlier page yourself.
Why are there no files in the page?
Check the input directory, suffix filter, and recursion setting. Hidden entries and symlinks are always skipped. Empty directories are not listed.
Why are subfolders missing?
Add --recursive. Increase --max-depth only as far as you need; the default is three levels below the input root.
Why do links break after I move the HTML?
The links describe the relative path from the generated page to each file. Move the entire folder with its layout intact, or regenerate at the new output location.
Will it upload or delete anything?
No. Version 0.1.0 reads names from the local directory and either prints HTML or writes the new output file you specify. It contains no network client or deletion operation.
Can I use it for a private archive?
You can generate a local index, but this utility adds no encryption or access control. It is not a backup tool. Keep private material in a suitably protected location.
Are all platforms tested?
No broad platform certification is claimed. This bundle was checked with a small local fixture covering Unicode names, HTML escaping, depth limits, suffix filters, symlink skipping, and refusal to overwrite. Recheck your own environment and file layout.
Where is the source repository?
The full source is included as a downloadable file on this site. No external repository, package-registry entry, contributor count, or community size is claimed.
